The nite to go to Roccapulco is Friday Nite. Both myself and my guy friend went and had a blast. It is unusual...since if it is a good nite for the guys...that means too many women and if it is a good nite for the women....too many men. Go figure. Well, Friday nite was a good balance...and I went back again to find the same... it attracts pockets of really great dancers (I love watching the groups that tend to hang out in the corner by the DJ booth, they're probably in a performance group), and the leads are  good so you can learn different styles and tricks.

Nap's 3

Naps III is a great place for Spanish and American style karaoke, cheap drinks, bar tenders who like to do shots with you and sometimes are far drunker than the patrons on the other side of the bar, refuge from hipsters, a nice patio that's never as crowded as El Rio, and for love to blossom...  Good place to get away from the throngs at El Rio/Roccapulco. Their backyard patio even lets you enjoy all the noise and visuals without a cover... 1) The porch has plenty of seating and is not crowded (unlike the porch at El Rio) 2) The drinks are strong and cheap 3) The crowd is decidely un-hip (in a very good way) 4) Don't do anything to piss off the locals.

It's a mix of so many different things - random magic show on the t.v., photobooth, giant glow-in-the dark Godzilla poster, Virgin Mary beads, pool table, photo booth, live music... Excellent venue and bar -- cheap drinks, AND a photobooth is all included in this lovely package deal.

This may be THE dive bar for daytime drinking. Tall windows provide enough light for me to pull off wearing sunglasses inside without looking like a total jackass (shhhh, let me live the lie). The crowd is defintely salty but genuine... This is a great bar, it could almost, almost replace my favorite bar. It's very inviting, the bartender is really friendly,( he even bought me a drink), the bathrooms are really nice, and extensivly painted ... Dive bare extraordinaire, with super friendly bartenders and patrons. Expect to talk to the person on the stool next to you, cuz this is a friendly kind of place. Charm is everywhere--Lovely mural on the ladies room wall. The jukebox is always on, there's a bookcase with some reads in the back, and the front table is always scattered with the day's newspaper.

I would strongly urge you to study up on your Spanish before you go in.  They are always blasting cool Mexican music, and everyone looks like they are having a good time.  You are unlikely to find cheaper beer anywhere in the city.

Yes, I only ever go here to get a drink whilst waiting for a table at Emmy's, but El Amigo has become a beloved part of my Emmy's ritual...  Not that I hope that there's a wait when I go there, but the pain of waiting for a table is dulled by the ice-cold budweisers and friendly bartenders.

It's never super-crowded, and the bar staff is really nice.  The clientele is mostly gay, but with a fair share of straight people, and regulars/bar flies.

The interior of this Bernal Heights watering hole, with its bohemian charm, resembles an old-style saloon, with a long bar, mismatched tables and chairs for playing cards, a couple of pool tables, and assorted tchotchkes on the walls. The interior takes second place to the outdoor space, with its bi-level patios, shrubbery and sculpture garden, and hidden nooks and crannies for private tete-a-tetes. Bird feeders perch on rustic artwork, while patrons relax
on furniture fashioned from cinderblocks and driftwood... There's a pool table, a patio out back and a grandma's attic/lumberjack decor. Friendly laid back atmosphere. The Wild Side West, where you don't need to be lesbian to have fun, but it'd be more fun if you were.

It's a total dive, but cheap drinks, usally a few free ones, and live music every night.   Good live music too, nobody is tring to be a rock star here, people just playing because they love it... You come here to DRINK and the bartenders are more than happy to oblige. After only a few visits we got chummy with one of the bartenders and then the beers flowed like wine... these phenominal musicians seem to appear out of the veneer wood paneling. If you like live music this place is ON.

For those who don't know (and that includes me) an "enoteca italiano" means a locale where there are absolutely charming owners, nice colors, nice wines (and people who know how to recommend them), a simple light menu of cheeses, salads, figs and other things that go well with wine and a good soundtrack... I thought that good service, and great food in one location were a thing of the past.  You can image how pleased I was to discover both qualities happily co-existing at VinoRosso ... VinoRosso is an adorable and cozy place in a great location in Bernal Heights.  If you've never made it to the southern edge of the Mission, now you have a great reason to come with your friends.
