Supervisor Bevan Dufty
Supervisor Dufty's
career in the Mission dates back to the days when Supervisor
Susan Leal (1993-1997) acted as the representative for
the Mission and Bevan was her chief of staff. Many
were recently surprised to learn that Supervisor Dufty's
Supervisorial district included several Valencia Street
blocks when it was pointed out the District 9 candidate
Mark Sanchez campaign HQ at 21st & Valencia was in Dufty
district. The point was further driven home with the early
2009 American Apparel/formula retail healthy debate
where the Supervisor acted as the point person collecting
considerable input on how Valencia Street should evolve.
Next year we elect a new a new Mayor and the Supervisor will
be running.
Perhaps the most contentious
issue Supervisor Dufty has overseen is still alive as the
annual event known as Halloween in the Castro.
Two years ago the 16th St BART Station was shut down and
last year an alternative venue next to the Giants Stadium
was set-up while the Castro was effectively cordoned off. by
SFPD-Mission. Come find out what's coming up for
October 2009
Day
of the Dead Procession & Altars 2009
Siouxsie Oki from dayofthedeadsf.org will be
presenting.
The 3rd Day is November
2nd. Our biggest festival month after May is October and
2009 will be our 9th year co-sponsoring this International
famous event that brings thousands from throughout the Bay
Area for a uniquely Mission-Latin celebration of the cycle
of life.
The annual
procession, lead by Rescue Culture Collective, will be on
Monday, November 2, 2009 at 7:00 PM at 24th & Bryant, in the
Mission District of San Francisco and will end at Garfield
Park for Festival of the Altars organized The The Marigold
Project.

SAVE THE DATE During the Eastern
Neighborhoods approval hearings the
Board of Supervisors
decided to keep the allowed building heights on
Mission Street at existing levels rather than raise them
but asked the Planning Department to revisit the heights
proposal and the policy implications of raising heights for
affordable
housing and
small business retention and promotion in the
neighborhoods
To this end we are convening a second public workshop following
the April meeting at the Women’s building to update you on where
we are.
Please join us to get your
input and refine some height scenarios, and to
brainstorm more affordable housing and small business retention
and
promotion tools for the community!
We envision this as a working session to gather as many ideas
and feedback
as possible.
