On Easter Sunday, From 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. see incredible Easter bonnets as only New York City can do when they parade themselves along Fifth Avenue from 49th to 57th Streets is closed to vehicular traffic, and folks wander the street admiring various Easter Bonnets and Easter outfits. . The area around St. Patrick's Cathedral is the ideal place to see the parade. The tradition of the Easter Parade on Fifth Avenue in New York City began in 1866 after the Civil War was over. People would don their Easter finery and wear bonnets that they had designed. There was a custom of mother-daughter dresses which has faded. --------Easter Eggstravaganza in Central Park --------- claims the title of the world's largest Easter egg hunt, egg dyeing, egg and spoon races, petting zoo, arts and crafts, in-line skating, bandshell entertainment, a Greenmarket, and several Children's Theater performances. Takes place in the Naumburg Bandshell and Mall Concert Ground, Mid-Park from 66th to 72nd Streets. Enter at 72nd street on either side of the park.
