CaptionUnder Ron Gallegos' leadership MNC expanded its branches from the three original community centers to eleven neighborhood sites which includes Mission Bay and the Excelsior community. He led the organization as it grew from $118 000 to over $5.5 million annual budget. He was a true social worker visionary organizer advocate father padrino compadre and a role model. Ron was one of the first individuals involved with the creation and production of Carnaval San Francisco in 1978. After several years of being involved with the children's production of Precita Valley Community Center the co-founders of the event crowned him King of Carnaval for 10 years followed by being "made" the "Emperor of Carnaval San Francisco in perpetuity " and has maintained this title since. **** As President emeritus of the Board of Directors of Mission Neighborhood Centers Inc. his involvement in Carnaval did not cease. As the event grew from a neighborhood park to attracting over 500 000 spectators his strong support for the event was unyielding. Mr Gallegos spent many years in musical theatre and the opera. He was a soloist tenor for the San Francisco Symphony and with renowned Ms. Marilyn Horne made his debut in “Carmen”.
