| IPTC INFO | | Caption | New York's Village Halloween Parade is single largest and most notable manifestation of what it is that makes Greenwich Village a symbol for the rest of the world-- creativity style and urbane "New York-ness." Its place in the list of attractions to New York City is guaranteed by the vast amount of world press that the Parade attracts each year--last year alone hosting 17 international television crews and countless print media. A telephone link-up with Japanese Radio the night of the Parade relays the Parade Director's command "Let the Celebration Begin!" to people all over Japan. All this good publicity garners over $60 Million in tourism and related revenues for New York City and Greenwich Village around the holiday. It is widely acknowledged by Greenwich Village businesses to be their "best night of the year." In addition the Parade has been praised for the role it plays in controlling crime in the Lower Manhattan area on a night which is dangerous and costly in all other parts of the City which don't have the large and happy crowd that attends the Parade. There is less crime the night of the Parade than on a typical night in Greenwich Village the rest of the year round. | | Headline | OCT: Halloween urbane "New York-style." | | Copyright Notice | halloween-nyc.com | | Date Created | 08/02/2004 | | URL | http://www.halloween-nyc.com |
