CaptionAlthough this world-famous festival is still a baby it has soared to the Dizzy Gillespie heights of being the UK's biggest free annual outdoor music festival. Groovy baby! Still a celebration of where it all began with the music of the Beatles the festival now celebrates a myriad of musical tastes from Abba to Zappa. Summer may be coming to an end but at the Mathew Street Music Festival it's a three-day FREE party. And in 2005 the dawn of a new era for Liverpool's Mathew Street Music Festival commences. The festival is set to showcase top bands for the first time in its 13-year-history. Rock legends The Stranglers are to headline the Pier Head main stage on Mathew Street Sunday August 28 along with The Christians Buzzcocks and Tony Christie and critically-acclaimed Merseyside band Amsterdam to perform their only festival date this summer on the Monday on the Pier Head Stage South. The 2005 Festival will be the biggest to date with an extra two new outdoor stages and a sixth stage at Wirral on Mathew Street Monday. The Pier Head which will host live music on all three days gains the new bands stage. Mathew Street Monday Bank Holiday August 29 will see Brit award winners McFly spear-heading a star-studded line up of acts including Lee Ryan and James Bourne in a two-hour live show between 11am and 1pm on Bank Holiday Monday. Organised by Liverpool’s number one radio station Radio City 96.7 in partnership with the Liverpool Culture Company 5 000 pairs of tickets for Radio City Live at Mathew Street Monday are to be given away – for FREE. The tickets for the August 29 show which will be staged at Liverpool's world famous Pier Head will be available from HMV stores across the North West from Thursday August 11. Joining the stars will be a mammoth 150 tribute bands from 20 countries from as far as Brazil and Japan performing live on the six outdoor stages and at more than 40 indoor venues.
