IPTC INFO
CaptionSince 2003 almost 100 000 people turn out for the annual London Mela which attracts participants and visitors from across the globe. It is an annual celebration of culture from the Indies with live music dance and fashion as well as market stalls and a selection of food and drink. Mayor of London Boris Johnson who was at the 2008 launch event for the Mela said: “The London Mela is a magnificent event which shows the breadth of South Asian arts and culture and celebrates what London's Asian communities have brought to our city. “And as well as being an attraction for those living in west London it is a great free family day for all Londoners.” Ajay Chhabra London Mela artistic director told Alex Hayes from the ealingtimes.co.uk “Last year we had more than 75 000 people across the day and we were blessed with wonderful weather. However in previous years we have had less good weather and still got large crowds because people know when they come to the Mela there are always places to get out of the rain we have plenty of big tops and tents. It’s very much a family event and there is definitely something for everyone.”
