CaptionThe river begins in the mountains of Lykaio to the west through a mixture of barren rock and forests it flows into the Messinia prefecture and near the village of Neda which owes its name from this river for the next 40 to 50 km it flows with the boundary of Messinia and Ilia prefectures for the rest of its length and covers the most length. It passes under the underpass of the GR-9/E55 Pyrgos - Kyparissia and into the forests marshes and the delta at the small plain area 2 km west of the highway and into the Ionian Sea with the Gulf of Kyparissia. ______________ During the era of Ancient Greece the Mount Lyceum was the Holy Mountain of Arcadians where it is believed Zeus was born. Ancient Arcadians called this mountain 'Olympus' and 'holy mountain'. Rhea took to top of Lyceuum Cretea in order to escape to her husband Cronus who ate their children. She gave birth to Zeus there. Rhea wanted to ablute her baby but there was no water. She bit the ground and found water. The river made was Neda River female river. Zeus was given to Agno Theisoa and Neda which were nymphs of Alfeios River. Zeus abluted there. Neda later suckled him and brought him up.
