| IPTC INFO | | Caption | The Koukeri Carnival in Razlog is a tradition which has existed even in the past. The tradition dates back from the Thracian Times and it is kept throughout the centuries until present. The celebrations are associated with the God Dionisius - the God of wine and abundance and they are very popular among the Bulgarians. There are differences in the celebrations in the different parts of Bulgaria which is because of the time they are held as well as the various costumes in which the Koukeri gets dressed. The custom in Razlog is associated with the spring when Nature awakens for the new life. The Koukeri Dance Group can consist of only men dressed in fancy dresses. The main Koukeri Dancer is a basic figure in the rite and he leads the group. He represents the Abundance. They dance to sweep away the evil spirits and to lay the new beginning and the re-birth of nature and the new life. The dances also represent the reiteration of the life cycle in Nature and its will to live and give birth. +X+X+ adopted from Karneval Aalborg" 2001 | | Headline | 'They dance to sweep away the evil spirits and welcome the re-birth of life in Spring | | Copyright Notice | Karneval Aalborg | | URL | http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=razlog+carnival | | User | Guest |
