IPTC INFO
CaptionThe city of Salvador was commemorating its 400th year of foundation in 1949 and that is when the “Filhos de Gandhi" Sons of Gandhi was founded by the stowers of the Port of Salvador as an homage to the great Indian pacifist killed in 1948 Mahatma Gandhi. ***** Afoxés are groups of Candomblé worshipers that participated in Salvador’s Carnival celebrations. In 1895 the nagô black people organized the first afoxé group named "African Embassy" which paraded using clothes and embellishment objects imported from África. ***** The group was inspired by Gandhi's message that love and peace is available to all who seek it with an open heart
