IPTC INFO
CaptionThe 4 000-strong Vila Isabel parade troupe which received about half a million dollars in sponsorship fees from the Venezuelan state oil company PDVSA won the championís title for its hour-long extravaganza in Rioís annual festival. Club president Wilson Alves de Vieira thanked the Venezuelans for their support when the winner was announced to cheers and shouts of joy. The clubís performance included a song about a ďunited and strongĒ Latin American people and a float featuring a giant statue of Chavezís idol Simon Bolivar revered as the continentís liberator. But nowhere to be seen were Chavezís more controversial ideas on socialism revolution and Latin American integration as an alternative to U.S. clout in the region. In an apparent nod to peace and harmony the 43-foot 13-meter statue of Bolivar held a heart in his hand instead of his traditional sword + _____________________________ "The one serious and formidable thing in nature is a will" RW-Emerson FATE ____________________ "About four ears after discovering Emerson -Nietzsche accidentally came upon Arthur Schopenhauer's "The World as Will and Representation". There he found a similar but stronger recognition of the power of will in nature and man. But this fierce will was presented as something to be stilled to ve overcome and finally as something to be denied.Schopenhauer reverses Emerson on this point. The will to life is for Schopenhauer the ultimate cause of discord suffering and pain. Therefore he preaches that "liberation" is attained through the surrender of this will to existence [which is an emanation acting through nature and man of a "primal will"]. The composer and dramatist Richard Wagner reinforces this Schopenhauerian idea and presents it as the heart of many of his music-dramas. For Schopenhauer and Wagner the Buddhistic ideal of the renunciation of desire and hence of the craving for more life becomes an article of faith." -- George Stack pg 153 Nietzsche and Emerson An Elective Affinity
