CaptionThe theme for the 2011 Carnival was “Dream the Future”. While celebrating Cape Town’s inherent cultural and artistic richness as well as paying tribute to our rich heritage we had a glimpse of an idealistic Cape Town and what our future might hold. The Cape Town Carnival in 2011 built on last year's solid start and created something new and unique to Cape Town – a huge glitzy affair affair with more participants art installations and floats. The Carnival has five main aims it hopes to fulfil in the long-term: 1. To develop a tourism offering called “Carnival World” which is a central hub for design; costume creation; dance training and theatre production and; float building. 2. To create permanent employment which revolves around costume and float design and production and the conceptualisation and running of The Carnival each year. 3. To create an area where tourists and locals can go and experience the glamour and creativity of The Carnival throughout the year. 4. To provide a significant hub for the clothing and construction industries in the Western Cape. 5. To create a carnival which showcases the diversity of South Africa and which puts The Carnival on the international tourism calendar.
